

ABOUT:
The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla is established by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Act (Act 16 of 2016) in the year 2016. The HPNLU campus is about 22 km from Shimla, situated at Ghandal on Shimla-Mandi National Highway (NH-205). The University is duly recognized by the Bar Council of India. The University is duly registered with the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi under Section 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and also got recognition under Section 12 (B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The HPNLU Shimla is regular member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi and several other prestigious National and International Institutions/ organizations.

For all Undergraduate Programs like B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) (Five Years Integrated Programme) admission shall be made on the basis of the Common Law Admission Test i.e. ‘CLAT’). Candidates should have passed the intermediate examination from any recognized board with a minimum of 50 % (45 % for S.C/S.T. students) without compartments.

Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla (HPNLU) has separate Boys’ and Girls’ Hostels (operated through hired buildings). One Girls’ Hostel Block is complete and another Hostel Block is in under construction. There is a central mess facility for all the hostels. Hostel
rooms are furnished with beds, study tables, chairs, and almirahs.
Proper sanitation and hygiene are maintained in the hostel and in the mess premises. The students are also provided with high-speed wi-fi connectivity. Transportation is provided for the residents of the hostels. For safety and security of hostel inmates, each hostel has adequate security guards.
The HPNLU campus is equipped with separate gym facilities for male and female students, featuring the latest fitness machines and equipment. These are complemented by proper recreational amenities for resident students. An open badminton court is currently operational, along with indoor sports facilities such as a gymnasium and table tennis. The University also offers various sports facilities, including cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, and a racing track. A full-fledged sports ground and additional outdoor facilities are currently under construction.
Library
The HPNLU Library is a special place in the University Campus with a collection of 14,500 documents, including Books and Periodicals in fields of Law, Economics, Political Science, Management, Sociology, History, Psychology, Philosophy, etc. The library stands as a unique Knowledge Centre that offers access to essential and specialized information resources and services to meet the growing teaching and research activities of the University. The Periodical section includes the previous issues of the Supreme Court Case, All India Reporter, Criminal Law Journal, Harvard Law Review, Judgement Today and Himachal Law Reporter. In addition to these, the library has a subscription to 21 print journals, 14 Magazines and 10 Newspapers for updated knowledge. The Reference Section of the library contains Halsbury’s Laws of England & India, Law Reports of the Commonwealth, Oxford Handbooks, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Law Commentaries, etc. The library operations are
automated using KOHALibrary Management Software, facilitating efficient cataloguing, circulation, and user services. The Library’s Web Online Public Access Catalogue (WebOPAC) is publicly accessible, allowing users to search for resources remotely and locate them within the physical collection. HPNLU Library also contributes its bibliographic records to IndCat, the Union Catalogue of Indian Libraries maintained by the INFLIBNET Centre.
To support digital learning and research, the library provides access to an extensive range of electronic resources through the Refread e-Library platform, accessible anytime and on any device. These e-resources include leading legal databases such as HeinOnline, SCC Online, AIR Online, Taxmann, Manupatra, REEDLAW, Lexis Advance, Kluwer Arbitration, Westlaw Asia, and LiveLaw. General reading and global awareness are supported through PressReader, which provides access to over 7,000 international newspapers and magazines. The library also offers tools to promote academic writing and research integrity, such as Grammarly (an AI-based writing assistant), Turnitin Feedback Studio (plagiarism detection and feedback), and DrillBit Plagiarism Detection Software under the INFLIBNET-UGC initiative. In addition to these, the library is also providing access to 30 e-Resource publishers to its users under the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) Plan provided by MoE through the INFLIBNET Centre. The library has also subscribed to the CrossRef Digital Object Identifier (DOI) service to enhance the visibility and reach of the university’s published journals.
To strengthen research support, the library has created dedicated profiles for all Research Scholars and Research Supervisors on the ShodhChakra platform, developed by the INFLIBNET Centre. This platform facilitates the entire research lifecycle, ranging from topic registration, access to research materials, supervisor feedback, progress tracking, to thesis submission.
