Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), named after one of the country’s greatest legal luminaries, Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. Hidayatullah, was established in 2003 by the Government of Chhattisgarh under the Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chhattisgarh Act (No. 10 of 2003). Nestled in the lush green surroundings of the meticulously planned city of Nava Raipur, HNLU stands as one of the premier destinations for legal education in the country, attracting students from all across India. The University boasts state-of-the-art academic and residential facilities for its students, faculty, and staff.
Embodying its motto, ‘Dharma Sansthapanartham,’ which translates to ‘for the sake of establishing the primacy of the laws of eternal values,’ HNLU is committed to imparting quality legal education. HNLU is the sixth in the series of National Law Schools across India. The University is on the list maintained by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, and has been deemed eligible to receive Central assistance as per the rules outlined in Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956. Further, the university is recognized by the Bar Council of India under Section 7 of the Advocates Act, 1961. Notably, HNLU ranked 5th among the National Law Schools in the India Today Rankings since 2021. It also achieved a rank of 51–100 in crisis management during COVID in the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Rankings for 2021 and 2022, and placed between 201–300 among innovative and emerging Universities by WURI. The institution is geared up to set new benchmarks in the upcoming years.

– Mess Fee shall be payable separately by the students on semester basis and it will be decided on the basis of contract rates.

As a fully residential university, HNLU has separate Halls of Residence for boys and girls. The first-year students are given an accommodation of two in one room for both boys and girls in the hostels. From second-year to fifth-year students are given accommodation in single rooms in the hostels having a capacity of 800 rooms furnished with cots, tables, and storage space. The University has a separate PG Hostel for Girls having the capacity to accommodate 30 students. Further, there are two more hostels constructed for both boys and girls. There is a recreational TV room as well.
The hostels on campus have boys’ and girls’ dining halls with a seating capacity of 150 each. The single-room hostels have a balcony to individual rooms and a courtyard. All the floors have water coolers and a centralized RO plant is under commission. The solar heater equipped with an alternate electrical heater supplies water to the shower rooms
Situated on a splendid 65-acre campus that overlooks a lake, the University offers B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) integrated Programme, L.L.M. Programme and
Ph.D. Course. The University has been included in the list of the Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, and has been declared fit to receive Central assistance in terms of the rules framed under Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India under Section-7 of the Advocates Act, 1961. The academic building is based on the design of The Parliament of India and consists of a well-equipped library, moot-court halls, and IT Lab.
The Student Bar Association is an important functional body at HNLU. Holding the office for a year, it comprises fourteen elected students who are the conveners of the various committees of the University.
ACADEMIC BLOCK – THE LEARNING PARLIAMENT
The Academic-Administrative block of the University has been built taking inspiration from
the architectural design of the Parliament of India. It is fully equipped with a wireless internet
connection, modern teaching aids including smart classrooms, and necessary equipment
making learning an effective experience at HNLU.
AMPHITHEATRE – AN ATHENIAN EXPERIENCE
The Academic block also houses a unique Amphitheatre right in the center of this block taking structural design inspiration from the Amphitheatre of Athens and has a seating capacity of 1000 students which is used for cultural festivals and other outdoor gatherings of students, staff, and faculty.
Classrooms
The University has 21 air-conditioned, well-furnished, and spacious smart class-equipped lecture halls meeting the advanced standard of academics.
Moot Courts
Moot Court Hall at HNLU is the Laboratory to test the Advocacy skills of the students of HNLU. There are six fully furnished Moot Court Halls available on Campus and all the Court Room Exercises are conducted there.
The Computer Lab
Furnished with computers, modern furniture, and cubicles, the Computer Lab is fully air-conditioned and well-equipped with high-speed internet connectivity, protection of powerful firewalls, and dedicated IT professionals for supplementary academic needs. The Law Studio is under commission and will be operational soon.
Sports
Both boys and girls have a state-of-the-art Gymnasium in the central hostels with indoor badminton courts and table tennis facilities. Outdoor sports facilities inside the campus include a Football ground with a proposed synthetic running track around it, a Cricket ground, a Lawn tennis court, two Basketball courts, and one Volley ball court respectively.
Transport
The University has three buses of 40 seater capacity which shuttle in the evening from campus to the city center at periodic intervals. The transport fees of the university entitle the students to a ride to shop and meet their food and entertainment needs in the city. Apart from the University transport, the city transport corporation buses ply every 20 minutes from the main road in front of the campus gate to the major points of the capital region and Raipur city.
The airport viz Swami Vivekananda Airport is just 15-minute drive from the campus and the Raipur railway station is 35 km. from the campus.
