Dharmashtra National Law University, (DNLU) Jabalpur

Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur (DNLU, hereafter) was established by the Madhya Pradesh Dharmashastra National Law University Act 2018 (24 of 2018). The University was unveiled by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, Shri Justice Dipak Misra, on 30th June, 2018 in the august presence of Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad (Hon’ble Union Minister of Law and Justice), Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan (Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh), Hon’ble Shri Justice Hemant Gupta (Chief Justice, High Court of Madhya Pradesh) and other dignitaries of legal fraternity across India.

The name Dharmashastra does not signify any particular religion, caste, and creed. It is used as a signifier to signify the essence of Dharma. The basic attribute of ‘Dharma’ is to uphold, bear, endure, and support the society without any kind of discrimination and also to maintain order and harmony among people and ensure that they are committed to defending the ideals of righteousness and justice in any circumstances.

In the modern context, our Constitution is our Dharmashastra and every citizen has to obey and respect the constitution. Our Constitution helps establishing the supremacy and rule of law.
