About Banaras Hindu University:
Banaras Hindu University is an internationally reputed temple of learning, situated in the holy city of Varanasi. This Creative and innovative university was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, in 1916 with cooperation of great personalities like Dr Annie Besant, who viewed it as the University of India. Banaras Hindu University was d under the Parliamentary legislation – B.H.U. Act 1915. It played a stellar role in the independence movement and has developed into the greatest center of learning in India.
The university comprises 6 Institutes, 14 Faculties 144 Departments, 4 Interdisciplinary Centers a constituent college for women’s and 3 Constituents Schools, spanning a vast range of subjects pertaining to all branches of humanities,social science,technology, medicine ,science, ne arts and performing arts. It has 6 centres of Advanced Studies, 10 Departments under Special Assistance Programme and a large number of specialized Research Centers. Four Degree Colleges of the city are a liated to the University. The university provides a wide range of facilities for sport and hobbies, has large playgrounds, a big auditorium, a ying club and many auxiliary services and units like Printing Press, Publication Cell,Fruit Preservation Center, Subsidized Canteens, Employment and Information Bureau, Security etc.
The University family consists of about 15000 students belonging to all streams of life, castes and religions and races, about 1700 teachers, and nearly 8000 non-teaching sta A large number of students from foreign countries like the U.S.A, the countries of Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa etc., come to study here. Eligibility
A candidate shall be eligible for appearing in the Under-graduate Entrance Test (U.E.T.) leading to
admission to B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)Semester I, if the – Applicant who has successfully completed
Senior Secondary School (10+2) or equivalent (Such as 11+1, “A” level in Senior School Leaving
certificate course) from a recognized University of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary
Board or equivalent constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government or from any
equivalent institution.
Admission Process
Admission in B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) I-Semester programme of study shall be made on merit in the
UET.
The Faculty shall have an Admission Committee for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) undergraduate admission,
constituted under the provisions of Ordinances and consisting of the Dean or his nominee and two
senior-most members of the teaching staff of the Faculty. Admission shall be made in accordance
with these ordinances and the rules made there under. Admission cannot, however, be claimed by
any candidate as a matter of right. The admission or re-admission of a candidate shall be entirely at
the discretion of the Admission Committee which may refuse to admit any student without
assigning any reason there for. On his/her selection for admission to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)
Semester I programme, the candidate shall, within the time fixed by the Dean, Faculty of Law
deposit the fees prescribed for the programme. If the candidate fails to deposit fees within the
stipulated time, his/her selection shall automatically stand cancelled. Such a candidate shall not be
admitted to the concerned programme unless a fresh order of selection and extension of date for
payment of fees is issued.

minimum of 50% marks in aggregate considering all the subjects in the three years except those
subjects where only pass marks are required and which do not contribute to the total in the final
(Degree) marksheet.

A library is an important part of an academic institution of higher learning. Its importance increases as it plays a signi cant role in the pursuit of academic excellence. Keeping this in view, a constant e ort is being made to enrich the library with a collection of a wide variety of books and journals for the perusal of law students and scholars. The library caters to the needs of students and researchers engaged in legal studies and intensive research, besides satisfying the needs of the Bench and the Bar. The Law School’s library occupies the whole rst oor of the institution and can accomodate over a hundred students at a time. The Law School has around 80,000 books and more than 135 international and national journals. An open access tem has been adopted for easy access to the available literature and other information. The library provides 24/7 e-resource access to its students on-and-o the campus. The library’s collection includes judgments, reporters, manuscripts and law reviews of national and international levels. Several important reference and citation analysis sources have also been subscribed to by the University. Users may contact the librarian for any additional help required while accessing the databases. It uses URKUND as a plagiarism detection tool provided by INFLIBNET.
For further references students can access the Central Library both online and o ine. Named after Sayaji Rao Gaekwad, the Central Library is one magni cent building of resources. Presently, the Banaras Hindu University Library System consists of Central Library at the apex level, 3 Institute Libraries, 8 Faculty Libraries and 25 Departmental Libraries with a total collection of over 13 lakh volumes to serve the students, faculty members, researchers and technical sta of fourteen faculties consisting of 126 subject departments of the university.

Law School, Banaras Hindu University was set up in 1916 with a vision to promote excellence in the eld of legal education and to ful ll the ever increasing demand of quality legal professionals for a growing legal world.
