Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University was established by an Act of the Legislature of Uttar Pradesh in 2005 (U.P. Act No. 28 of 2005), which came into force on 4th January 2006. The University became functional in July 2006.
The University has been established to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes, while developing in students a sense of responsibility to serve society. Fully funded by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University provides excellent infrastructural facilities and a conducive academic environment.
This fully residential University is a complete township with separate hostels for boys and girls, along with mess facilities. The University has more than 27 permanent full-time faculty members, a rarity among National Law Universities. It also publishes its annual RMLNLU Journal along with the student-run RMLNLU Law Review.
The entire campus is equipped with Wi-Fi facilities. The University has developed a world-class mooting and debating culture, with its students consistently excelling in national and international moot court and debate competitions. RMLNLU students have represented India with distinction in prestigious international moot court competitions held in countries including the United States of America, Australia, Germany, Austria, Romania, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Iran, among others.

The admission shall be based on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test-2022. However, to qualify for admission, the candidate:
1. Must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an examination equivalent thereof, securing in aggregate not less than 45% (40% in case of SC/ST candidates of
(U. P.) of the total marks. The Candidates, who have appeared in the qualifying examination and are awaiting their results, may also write the Admission Test but their admission shall be
subject to the fulfillment of the above requirement at the time of admission.
The semester starts from the first week of July and January.
The intake of students for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Programme is 169 (one hundred sixty-nine) and 18 (eighteen) supernumerary seats per year with the following breakup:

Payment towards the mess facility shall be payable yearly in advance. Mess charges may range between Rs. 4,000/- to Rs.4,500/- per month based on the agreement with the service provider.
Students who have joined a regular course of law in the University shall be eligible for hostel accommodation for the duration of his/her course. However, allotment of the Hostel to the students shall not be a matter of right and the University shall have the discretion to allot or not to
allot the Hostel accommodation to a particular student or a group of students based on the parameters of suitability and need, in the broader interest of the academic environment of the campus.
Allotment of the hostel generally shall be made on a double-sharing basis. However, in special cases, Vice-Chancellor, on the recommendation of the Warden may consider single-room allotment
on the payment of such higher fee as may be decided by him.
The hostel admission shall be renewable at the start of each academic year.
The University has a well-equipped seminar hall and video conferencing hall, wherein seminars/workshops/ interactive sessions are conducted at regular intervals; all classrooms are equipped with LCD Projectors and other facilities. The University’s Madhu Limaye Library is one of the best law schools in India. The University has good sports facilities including a state of art gymnasium. It has a big auditorium and a swimming pool. There is a good twenty-room guest house on the campus. The University is located in the South-West part of Lucknow City; it has forty acres of sprawling green campus in Lucknow Development Authority’s, Kanpur Road Scheme. The University is situated in the heart of the city. The District Court, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Lucknow Bench, and Vidhan Sabha are all in a radius of 10 to 15 kilometers.
As an institution founded to create, acquire, and disseminate legal knowledge, the university provides members of the university community and state-of-the-art modern infrastructural facilities. This infrastructure is the property of the university and is provided for the purpose of facilitating the purpose of the university including teaching, learning, scholarship, research, communication, co-curricular, and other creative endeavors. The University, which is getting liberal grants from the State Government, is committed to providing excellent infrastructural facilities and environment to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of the law and legal process and to develop in the students and research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in advocacy, judicial and other legal services and legislation and the like.
